Macy's Politically Correct Santa

For more years than I care to remember, the appearance of Jolly Old St. Nick at the end of the Macy’s Parade, smiling broadly and waving to the children and then, of course, saying those magic words “Merry Christmas”, signified the official start of the Christmas Holiday Season

As the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade drew to a close last Thursday thousands of people gathered at Herald Square suddenly broke out into cheers of happiness as Santa Claus made his appearance at 34th Street.

Suddenly there he was, in his brand new sleigh packed with bags of presents for good little boys and girls atop his workshop, standing and waving to the adoring crowd of children and adults.

As Santa’s float pulled in front of Macy’s a hush came over he crowd and Santa turned to the crowd of spectators and cameras, placed his finger aside his nose and then spread his arms wide shouting those magic words….

“Happy Thanksgiving to One and All!”

Happy Thanksgiving? What was that all about?

What happened to “Merry Christmas”?

Have the “P.C.” police finally gotten their hooks into Macy’s so that they, along with many others, are now afraid to mention the verboten word, “Christmas”?
