If we could not laugh, we would all go insane!

Former CBS anchor Dan Rather has joined the growing chorus of voices from the liberal left who are upset that the 20th Amendment to the United States Constitution prohibits them from removing President Bush from the Oval Office on the morning of November 5, 2008 to allow for the immediate coronation of the "Chosen One."

According to Mr. Rather, President Bush is not doing enough during this presidential lame duck period and would like to see the Presidential Inauguration moved up to December 1. Mr. Rather's comments were unclear as to exactly what President Bush is not doing enough of but he is very concerned because the nation is in the midst of some very dangerous times not unlike December 7, 1941 and the Civil War.

In fairness to Mr. Rather, I know he has been off his stride ever since he was shown the door by CBS for running that false Air National Guard story about George Bush back in 2004, but I would tend to think that that would leave him with a lot of time on his hands. Perhaps he should use that time to sit down and think about what he intends to say on the televised media.

I am somewhat confused about his equating the nation's current fiscal crisis to Pearl Harbor and the Civil War. I know the CEO's of the Big Three automakers recently flew their private jets to Washington D.C. to testify before the Congress but I do not believe they had any intention of bombing any of our Naval facilities on the east coast enroute. Nor do I believe that AIG, Fannie Mae (or Mac) have threatened to secede from the Union if their organizations do not receive sufficient federal aid to assist them in their individual plights.

Mr. Rather's consternation with our Constitution is also shared by Ms. Gwen Ifill from PBS. Remember her? She was the moderator for the last debate between Senators McCain and Obama who, as it turns out, also has a book about Barack Obama scheduled to be published this coming January. Ms. Ifill is concerned that President Elect Obama is unable to effectively take the lead in the issue of the of the Big Three automakers because President Bush is still in Office. Ms. Ifill stated in a recent interview with a New York Times reporter that she saw a poll where Obama's "approval rating was higher for his handling of the Mumbai attacks than President Bush's..."

The more I read of this post election liberal ranting the more I am reminded of the lyrics from Jimmy Buffet's Changes in Latitudes which state, "If we could not laugh we would all go insane."
